Joy Division Night

Thursday, 28 October 2010

A special event marking 30 years since the untimely death of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis.

Paul Morley wrote for the NME between 1977 and 1983, and contributed to the first issues of The Face. He also contributed in the 1980s to iD, New York Rocker and Blitz.

He is currently a contributing editor at Arena Homme Plus and writes about music for The Observer New Review. He has published several books including Words and Music: A History of Pop in the Shape of a City and Ask: The Chatter of Pop, a collection of his NME journalism. His most recent book, Piece by Piece: Writing About Joy Division 1977-2007, is a collection of his Joy Division articles.

Kevin Cummins is the definitive chronicler of Manchester music. His photographs have appeared in NME, Melody Maker, The Face, Mojo, and Rolling Stone, and his work has been exhibited at galleries around the world. In his new book, Joy Division, powerful black-and-white photographs capture the raw energy of live performances, relaxed rehearsals in T.J. Davidson's rehearsal room, as well as the intimacy between the band members. Joy Division is published by Rizzoli New York.

8pm.

In association with the Ulster Bank Festival at Queen's.
